My Landscape/Landskap

  • Kawartha Art Gallery 190 Kent Street West Kawartha Lakes, ON, K9V 2Y6 Canada (map)

This exhibit is a collaboration between grade 9 students from Lindsay in Ontario, Canada and grade 6 students from Rösjöskolan in Sollentuna, Sweden.

The idea was to explore the landscape in which the students live, as well as how a landscape can be a personal statement.

Over the summer of 2021, the Lindsay students were given a homework assignment to photograph the local landscape with which they live.

The emphasis was on the local landscape and its search for its identity, what makes our landscape unique?

Both schools had the same approach and questions about what landscape is. We had collaborated on the background material. We included art critique and analysis of artwork. The students were exposed to works from both countries to contrast and compare.
We examined the evolution of landscape painting traditions from the past to current trends.

We also investigated the technical aspects of painting.
How do I construct and structure a painting, and what technique do I employ?
To interpret the landscape, we used a variety of mediums and techniques.

For many of the students, this was the first time they had dedicated so much time to a painting and another semester, delving deeper into the landscapes, could have easily been spent.

~ The creative path has just begun ~

We hope that you enjoy the exhibit!
