ABOUT US
Situated in Central Ontario, 45 minutes west of Peterborough and 90 minutes northeast of Toronto, Kawartha Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the Lindsay Public Library on Kent Street West in the City of Kawartha Lakes. As a not-for-profit organization, Kawartha Art Gallery is a public art gallery dedicated to advancing a healthy rural creative economy through exceptional and engaging cultural programs, services, and exhibitions by local and regional artists.
EXHIBITIONS
Kawartha Art Gallery accepts applications to exhibit from emerging and established artists in Ontario for solo and thematic joint/group exhibits. Artists working in any media or discipline are eligible to apply.
Working to provide a positive exhibit experience for the Artist, Kawartha Art Gallery works closely with the artist on all aspects of their exhibit providing:
Experienced Gallery hangers to set up and take down all exhibits
Exhibit promotion through the Gallery’s website, social media, membership emails, community event listings and print materials, with all promotional materials shared with the artist
An Artist Talk opening reception, as health orders allow
CARFAC payment for the exhibit royalties and the Artist Talk presentation
A travel stipend for exhibiting artists residing outside of the City of Kawartha Lakes region to assist with travel costs. All exhibiting artists are responsible for the delivery and pick-up of their artwork
CARFAC PAYMENTS
Kawartha Art Gallery as a Class 1, small space public art gallery, hosting exhibits within a 4-to-5-week time frame, pays exhibiting artists as per the CARFAC 2023 fee schedule for Royalties for Exhibitions and Presentation and Consultation Fees. Payments will be made within 30 days of the end of the artist’s exhibition.
EXHIBIT SALES
Although artists are paid royalties there is the opportunity for artists to have their exhibit works available for sale. All sales will be conducted through the Gallery. Kawartha Art Gallery takes a 25% commission on the sales of exhibiting artists that are Gallery Members and takes a 30% commission on the sales of non-Gallery Member exhibiting artists. Gallery Member Artists memberships are $25.00 per year and must be taken out before the first day of an artist’s exhibit.
Kawartha Art Gallery does not collect or remit HST on behalf of the artist. If you collect HST, you must include the tax in the listed price of your artwork and indicate on the price list submitted to the Gallery that you do so. Commission rates charged by the Gallery apply to the pre-tax price.

The deadline for applications for the 2024 exhibit schedule is September 30, 2023.
Artists will be notified of the status of their application by October 31, 2023.
