I knew that my large pieces needed a more sturdy backing. A friend who works in framing, gave me a piece of mat board to try.
I love the range of colours, the large size and the rigidity of the mat board.
At about the same time I was doing a lot of driving, and was struck by the way the road continuously curved into the horizon in front of me, with the eternal hope of what was just around the corner.
I began to work on this idea in my Art compositions...creating lines that overlapped, intersected, and lead to hope.
These early pieces all needed to be framed under glass.
As I continued working I had a desire to liberate the paper from behind glass.
I loved the different quality of paper and wanted it to be more accessible to the viewer. I began creating works on large canvases.
In this piece, I continue to work on compositions around roads. I wanted to examine ‘roads’ intersecting, how much more interesting things are when they intersect and come together.
