Art + Nature: Our Environment in Images + Words

Before COVID-19 struck in mid-March leading to the national lockdown, Susan Taylor and I, as Curatorial Co-chairs, discussed mounting an exhibit utilizing works from the Permanent Collection. Susan asked me if I would Chair a committee to organize this exhibit.

As we are a Community based Gallery with a strong belief in recognizing all arts across the spectrum, my first thought was: what other aspects of the arts could we bring to this table? During our discussion many ideas flowed back and forth, the main one being the vast amount of not only visual artistic talent in our City of Kawartha Lakes but also in other areas such as writing, acting, music, to name a few. I broached the idea of involving COW (Circle of Writers) the writing group which meets in the City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library Lindsay Branch. We decided this would be interesting as members of the writing group could compose written pieces about artwork chosen for the exhibit.

With approval granted by the Curatorial Committee, we moved ahead. The exhibit was to be hung for the month of July. Since the exhibit was unable to be held in the usual manner, we have moved ahead to offer it to a much wider viewing public online.

I would like to thank and acknowledge RoseMarie Condon, a renowned and very talented artist and writer; and Joan Forsythe, Interior Designer, artist and writer, for graciously accepting my request to be on the committee. They have done a tremendous job in the formation of this exhibit.

We present for our viewers enjoyment and education:
