PRETTY IN PINK - June 2020
Using an oil painting effect on this photograph emphasizes the ruffled edges of these pink peonies. They bring to mind – at least for me – images of frills on a little girl’s sun dress and summer garden parties.
BUTTERFLY GARDEN - July 2019
Does anything accessorize a garden quite like a butterfly...or two? Not only do they add movement to the space but a visit from a butterfly brings approval for our gardening efforts.
AFTER THE RAIN - July 2020
Water beading on flower petals conjures up images of a gentle summer shower. Can you smell the wet earth of the garden or imagine the feel of the refreshing breeze the rain leaves behind?
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN - August 2020
Distinctive calls drew my attention to a flock of chickadees in a backyard lilac bush. They challenged me to capture their photograph as their flittered through the branches enjoying a buffet of seeds. By the next morning most of them had disappeared.
GARDENER'S LITTLE HELPER - June 2020
The companionship of a chipmunk tends to interrupt gardening efforts more often than help. Still, as natural performers they pay us back with endless entertainment. Who among us can resist smiling at a chipmunk trying to pack his ballooning pouches with one more nut or seed?
DINING IN STYLE - November 2010
A raised deck brought me eye to eye with this rooftop diner. Its lush tail, like an elegant fur stole looks more suited to dinner at a five-star restaurant then a scrounged tidbit on asphalt shingles.
ENCHANTED - June 2020
The use of an oil painting effect brings the illusion of movement to the base of an old maple tree. It enchants a simple image to create a place one might imagine wood nymphs or fairies dwell.
A POP OF COLOUR - August 2019
This poppy more than makes up for its small size with rich colour and detail. A tight frame adds impact, turning an easily overlooked but simple cutie into a stunning beauty.
THE PAINTED LADY - September 2019
Weathered wood provides an ideal contrast for the vivid pink butterfly bush in a photograph full of subtle contrast. — New against old, bright against faded and the living against the inanimate.
BODY LANGUAGE - June 2020
Completely at home in the rustic setting provided by an old backyard tree stump, this chipmunk’s posture suggests he might be feeling the need for some social distancing.
Not a problem little fellow...we can relate.
PEEK-A-BOO - July 2020
Capturing this image was pure luck. My backyard chipmunks seldom hesitate long enough for a photograph before racing out to meet me and beg for a peanut.
SHADES OF GRAY - May 2011
Soft and subtle…like the melody of the bird’s soothing coos in a garden. This dove almost disappears into the background leaving clusters of leaves to provide the feature colour.
