Words While We Wait - Day 8

Words While We Wait from Bobcaygeon, Ontario

THE RAINBOW - A story about today

Poet: Sarah Quick
Artist: RoseMarie Condon

The weather matched my mood today
A great big, dark grey cloud
Of “Stay inside” “I’m not quite sure”
And ‘No, we’re not allowed”

The weather matched my mood today
So, in my room I stayed
And built a fort upon my bed
So, I was not afraid.

The sheets became the castle walls
The floor became a moat
My stuffies all stayed safe as well
By crossing in a boat

And as we huddled safely
We spotted it up high
Peeking out from through the clouds
A rainbow in the sky

A multi-coloured signal
A beacon shining bright
As if to say “We’ve got this
We’re going to be alright”.

The RED looked like a fire truck
Battling a blaze
The ORANGE, glowing embers
Beside a building it had saved.

The YELLOW looked like Daffodils
Or maybe, Buttercups
Like the flowers I give my mum
That always cheer her up.

The GREEN looked like a soccer field
The BLUE looked like a pool
They were every place we want to be
When we are not in school

The VIOLET and the INDIGO
Looked like a wizard’s spell
A purple-mist enchantment
To make the world be well.

The colours stretched from here to here
From upside down – a smile!
That shone upon the world below
For miles and miles and miles.

The weather matched my mood today
But through the clouds and rain
The sun created colours
And turned life bright again
