Words While We Wait - Day 10

Words While We Wait from Bobcaygeon, Ontario

FAITH AGAINST ALL ODDS

Poet: Pamela Warland
Artist: Sharon Myatt

Blah to this new pandemic, the bane of all our lives
We wear our masks, keep to our tasks, but still the virus thrives

We quarantine and sanitize, safe distances maintained
We stay at home and have a moan, while Covid is detained

Frontline workers, PPE, are words we can’t ignore?
Ventilation, isolation…they’ve not troubled us before

Travel now is out of bounds, Kawartha pays the price
There’s no great art in falling apart; it “creeps up” once or twice!

The paradox thriving relentlessly with leaders now at odds
We cannot meet, we cannot greet; they send out Covid squads!

Irony’s alive and well; cessation more dogmatic
We can buy beer to keep the cheer… without would be traumatic

Our items on the grocery list have sometimes cause an issue
The shelves are bare, not much to share… we trawl for paper tissue

Through all this we’re pleased to say our talents have increased
We cut our hair; we Zoom with flair, and learn to cook a feast

Our nails no longer different shades, just normal pink with health
No more gym, we’ve given in. More money and more wealth!

We are germ free. Swabbed and cleansed. Hosed and purified.
We’ve won the war; shown it the door. The virus cannot hide

When confines raise us from this murk and bubbles float away
And life returns; no more concerns, Kawartha too will play.
