This painting channels Marie Antoinette and Louise XIV. The throne, the pale sumptuous colours and carpet speak of riches and comfort. The creature on the throne with its crownlike head and feet forming a barricade, looks a little bemused versus imperial. This speaks to me of trying to present a strong front when we’re sometimes shaking internally.
