This piece was inspired by Middle Eastern people in our neighbourhood who situate themselves in the front yard so they can see what’s going on, like people used to do in North America, with front porches. It made me think how isolating the suburbs can be, where we hide in the back yard. Here the creature is further withdrawn and hiding under the lawn chair.
