Artist Spotlight - Maxwell Dickomeit

Graduate of LCVI

Artist Statement:

“My name is Maxwell Dickomeit, and I am a practicing Graphic Designer in Peterborough Ontario. I completed High School at LCVI in Lindsay Ontario, where I truly learned how to create art and push my boundaries. My experience there put me on the track to becoming the designer I am today. Although I spend my time now creating logos and marketing material, I try to find moments of peace in my busy life where I can carve out an hour or two to create something that excites, intrigues, and pushes me in directions I’ve yet to explore. I work mostly with digital mediums, as I find them the most versatile, however I do try to find the time to draw or occasionally paint. Being an artist will always be a part of my life, and I look forward to creating for as long as I’m able.”

Poolside

1080px x 1080px

Digital Illustration

April 18, 2020

This piece is significant because it was the beginning of a time of exploration for me as an artist. After spending many years in the digital landscape, Poolside became one of the artworks where I felt like I had discovered not only something new, but also something exciting. The use of gradients, subtle textures, and an interesting vector style of illustration kept on calling me to come back up until it’s completion. Not only was it exciting to create, it also brought back the passion for digital illustration that I had lost throughout years of school, work, and professional design.”

Beach Day

Digital Illustration

June 2, 2020

Much like my other illustrations, creating this vector illustration was a natural step within the digital landscape. However, this piece signifies a step into learning more, and pushing the boundaries of my skill. Beach Day put me in a direction unlike any I had tried previously but was so fun and enjoyable to create that I spent every free moment testing and experimenting with different tools and methods. The digital programs I used to create this piece have so many nooks and crannies, that I couldn't help spending hours and hours diving in and absorbing every new thing I was able to in order to create this.
