Victoria Loan & Savings Co., First Office, 1895

H. Wainman, 1975, Oil

This painting depicts a local building, Victoria Loan & Savings Co., at the southwest corner of Kent and Cambridge Streets. This painting originally hung at "Victoria & Grey Trust Company" located at Kent and William Street.

Board Member Robert Shields found the painting hanging in the office of Andrea Harrington at Scotia Bank. Ms. Harrington had purchased it for $2 as she really liked the frame. Robert asked if she would be willing to donate the painting to the Kawartha Art Gallery. She agreed that the Gallery could have it as long as she could keep the frame. Scotia Bank is located on the southeast corner of Kent and Cambridge. Also shown in the painting is the Fee Motors Building where the Scotia Bank is at present.
