Philippa Hunter

Philippa Hunter was born in Halifax in 1928. As an artist, she was mostly self-taught but did some study under Arthur Lismer and Ralph Allen. Though she loved art from her early days, she prioritized her family, and became a professional artist only once her children left home. Hunter was inspired to paint by the sea at her cottage in Prince Edward Island and the Canadian fiction that she adored reading. Her paintings often depicted abstract views of the sea she so loved and different imaginary worlds. She passed away in April of 2019, at the age of 90.
