COLLAGE: noun or verb? Day 8
Portal, 2019 NFS
I have always been fascinated by the different qualities of paper; the transparency, the luminosity, the texture, the colour gradations.
In some work I might be exploring the nature of the tissue paper and its’ properties.
Using new materials always gets my creativity flowing. When I create Art, the product is a secondary bonus to the thinking. When a piece is finished, I am usually done thinking about it and I am on to a new idea that I want to explore. When the work is hung on the wall it is not a noun, it is still a verb...it is a catalyst for the viewers thinking now, it becomes something that communicates and creates new ideas and concepts in the viewer.

In this piece, I used Easter basket grass to create the red lines.
Using new materials always gets my creativity flowing.

Napkin, 2019 (8 x 9.5 inches) $85 framed
This piece is made from a dinner napkin.
I was fascinated by the vibrant colours and the abstract design on the napkin.
I love work like this that is in response to something, in this case a napkin.
It is like a communication between the paper and myself…not that I am ‘talking’ but I am responding to the elements inherent in the paper.
In order to ‘respond’ I need to have a full art toolkit.
How can I unite the elements that are already there?
What colours would work in combination with what is there?
How can I create some sense of depth and space?
How will the viewers eye move around the space?
Is there a focal point?
