Lesley Drummond is an artist, educator and curator who has been actively involved in the Arts community of Kawartha Lakes since 1985. Currently on the Board of the Kawartha Lakes Arts Council and Director of the Kawartha Arts Network since 2007, she is based in Janetville.
Although Lesley’s BFA background from Queen’s University provided her with experiences in a wide variety of media, her chosen materials initially became acrylics, charcoal and photography. Broad experiences including extensive international travel, working in both private and public galleries, being Artist in Residence for three Ontario Provincial Parks and running the Visual Arts Department for three local high schools for thirty years solidified those skills and gave her the confidence and inspiration to move forward.
Since her retirement from teaching in 2015, she has focused more on mixed media work: incorporating photo transfers, collage, pastel, pencil, pigma pens, drywall compound and found objects onto her canvases. This has fulfilled her interest in working with actual textures along with exploring the technical challenge of recreating them in acrylics and dry media.
The three works in the Always Inspired exhibit reflect three somewhat different explorations: a more realistic textural and colour study of an old Scottish church, abstraction and the use of repetition through architectural elements, and the use of pattern combined with Lesley's love of Art Nouveau.

A love of texture, along with exploring spaces through structure, has been a focus of my work for decades. Recently I have been inspired to concentrate more on design and include various collage elements, whilst still being influenced by my love of architecture and travel experiences.
