Joan is a resident of the City of The Kawartha Lakes, since 2019, residing in Lindsay.
She practised Interior Design professionally in Toronto for her working life. She has a Bachelor's degree from the School of Architecture at the University of Manitoba.
As retirement approached she got back to her love of artmaking.
Joan had studied at the Toronto School of Art, Ontario College of Art, Haliburton School of the Arts, Neilson Park Creative Centre and has taken numerous workshops from artists who inspired her.
She was President of the Forest Hill Art Club for six years and a member of the Don Valley Art Club, serving on the Workshop Committee. The past two years as a member of The Kawartha Arts Network, she has worked on the program committee and is the convenor for the future Art Matters Show.
She is an acrylic and mixed media painter and paints abstract landscapes and non-objective works.
She loves the natural world and many of her themes are based on her photography from extensive travels in South East Asia, China, Japan, South and East Africa Egypt, trek in Nepal and her kayak adventures in Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island. Her most recent adventure was to Antarctica on an Expedition ship in 2018. These landscapes are imbedded in her memory and deeply affect her work.
Joan writes poetry and prose with the local Circle of Writers and poetry groups.

At times of stress in my life, I have looked for Inner Peace. In Nepal I attended a Buddhist retreat on this subject. It has been my lifelong quest.
For my Inner Peace series, I have chosen a limited palette of Cerulean Blue, Raw Umber, White and Titanium Buff. The whites have tinted most of the colours to a soft pastel value which have a calming effect on the viewer.
This painting is an imaginary landscape with the use of reflection to take the viewers thoughts into this peaceful scene.
