“Our surroundings provide the stimulus that gets our creative juices flowing. Our response to that stimulus, filtered through our various sensibilities and artistic processes, has resulted in artwork that reflects the City of Kawartha Lakes in one way or another.”
EXHIBITION STATEMENT
The City of Kawartha Lakes is a rich artistic region, containing a wealth of talented artists and abundant source material for those creators. Kawartha Arts Network is a local not-for-profit co-operative of practicing artists. Fourteen of our members have come together to create the show ‘Kawartha Creates’ with a view to expressing how we relate in various ways to the area.
We are all residents of Kawartha Lakes, so we draw inspiration from our connections to its beautiful and varied landscapes, both rural and urban. Expressing what our environment means to us is a driving force for many of our works, seen here in “Kawartha Creates”.
Our surroundings provide the stimulus that gets our creative juices flowing. Our response to that stimulus, filtered through our various sensibilities and artistic processes, has resulted in artwork that reflects the City of Kawartha Lakes in one way or another. You may see images in the show that remind you of places you have visited and to which you have an emotional connection.
Whether or not that’s the case, our hope is that our work at the very least evokes an emotional response to the colours, textures, and subject matter we have explored.
Kawartha Creates is a celebration of the landscapes, the art, and artists of the City of Kawartha Lakes. Enjoy.
