Natural dyes from plants and flowers have been used throughout human history to bring vibrant colours into our everyday lives. One method that has blossomed in popularity to make use of these dyes is called flower pounding or flower hammering. This technique uses physical force to transfer the pigments onto paper and fabric. Join Exhibiting Artist Laura Butler in exploring this technique, using supplied flower and leaf cuttings and fabrics, or bring your own items and flowers for a customized experience. This workshop will begin with an intimate walkthrough of Laura’s “Sincerely Plants” exhibit at the Kawartha Art Gallery led by the artist herself, before the group will walk over to the Pie Eyed Monk next door where the flower hammering will commence! All materials needed will be provided to participants. Food and beverage will be available for purchase during the duration of the workshop.
