“The art here at Cat Sass Studio is not all about cats! I have been painting with acrylic for over 30 years and sculpting with clay and wire to create detailed, life-like creatures. Inspired by nature, I paint to bring the feeling of being up close to wildlife into my home. Landscapes, cats, dogs, horses are included in my favourite subjects list.”

Jennifer Delaney
I am an artist from Bethany, Ontario. I primarily paint expressionist landscapes, as well as abstract art, and sometimes the two entwine. I have been a lifetime artist in hiding. I have many untuned skills in art but have spent the last few years focusing on oil painting. I am finding it cathartic, and a comprehensive way to share my visions. I am trained in Graphic Design, but I prefer the more organic feeling of paint on canvas, as opposed to digital work. I still admire all mediums if they are well done and respect the need for all. While I have dabbled for over 40 years, I have now started as a full-time oil and acrylic painting artist and have been working intently to improve and explore those skills needed in my work, now that I have settled on a medium that I enjoy more than anything. I have secured a separate studio space in the Peterborough area for all my work, and will be occasionally opening the doors to the public. This has been a learning experience on its own, as I have taken the leap of faith into the art world. I am set up, and clear in my intentions, and I do my best to paint every day that is available to me. My audience is any art lover, although I paint for myself and love of creating, with hope that others will connect to it.

Joy McCallister
I’m a self-taught artist and have taken a few courses to explore new techniques and strengthen my skills. In 2008, I moved to the village of Kirkfield in Ontario’s Kawartha Lakes area following a career working in Quebec and Ontario. Originally from Nova Scotia, my inspirations for my artwork are my deep roots in Canada’s Maritimes, my background in dance, and my love of music and nature. The art of dance was a strong force in my life for 20 years and instilled a deep-seated connection with the senses. I try to instill a sense of movement in my artwork and elevate the senses within my subjects. Despite experimenting for many years with numerous styles and formats, my art interests remain varied. However, I have discovered I am deeply drawn to abstract realism imposed on intimate views of nature. At this point, I find myself in an exciting period of transition as I experiment more with abstract realism and re-connect with the quirkiness and looseness I have occasionally found in my art; something that, as someone once observed, might stem from my maritime roots and my dance background. Who knew? For 2023, I am on a journey of rediscovery.

Karen Richardson
“I am a realist landscape artist living in Lindsay. Travels by RV, motorcycle, snowmobile, and kayak throughout Canada inspire my varnished watercolour landscapes, which focus on dramatic northern lakes, trees, rocks, and skies. My goal is to give viewers the sense of ‘being there’. I also love to garden, and many of the flowers I grow appear in my paintings. While I have worked in watercolour for 35+ years and have developed a certain ease with this medium, I love that I constantly discover new ways of manipulating pigment and water on paper. My commitment to quality and innovation lead to embracing a new type of mounting and framing over a decade ago. I used to present my paintings with mats and glass in traditional frames, but now I mount my artwork on archival wood panels, protected with many coats of varnish and black floater frames. This modern approach gives a more contemporary look to my paintings and allows them to be enjoyed without the glare and weight of glass. I taught watercolour workshops to adults for 15 years and from this frontline experience wrote and published Watercolour Toolbox: Essentials for Painting Success. This award-winning art instruction book summarizes much of the advice and guidance I shared with students in my workshops.”
