A Home Called Hope by LCVI's Grade 12 'Society Challenge & Change' Class
“Our mural is a triptych. The left side represents solutions that have yet to be implemented, the middle is APCH, and the right is where solutions have been implemented. When housed, people have their basic needs met and feel motivated and connected; they can strive to achieve their personal goals as a vital part of a community. The overall message - housing is the first step to introduce endless opportunities for obtaining further health and welfare of individuals and the entire community.”

The Bench by Mikeala Rancier
“I believe that housing is a human right, not a privilege. So, it's already sad enough that so many people wind up homeless on the streets. But to make things worse, the government spends money on hostile architecture, such as extra unnecessary handrails on benches to prohibit homeless people from being able to lay down and sleep, or spikes under bridges preventing homeless people from setting up camp. And with the housing market on the rise and shelters overfilling, the population of homeless people is only growing, leaving so many people without a place to stay.”
Through Different Lenses by Julia Cossarin
“Through each pair of lenses, the map is uniquely distorted to visually represent through abstraction the different means of supporting our youth. The bottom lenses focus on acceptance, safety, and caring for all youth (including LGBTQ, Indigenous, and people of different cultural backgrounds). The next pair of lenses represent community support to help youth to navigate the maze of life as they grow up. The lenses with the arrow imagery represent the directions needed to show our youth local opportunities. Finally, the lenses at the top communicate the importance of having youth stay in the community, become homeowners, and raise families.”
Together We Stand
by Katelin Langford
“The people in our community need love and compassion for their situations, which is why the hands are handing over a heart. The background colours symbolize unity and acceptance, representing the fact that no matter how one identifies or where one comes from, our community is doing its best to help the homeless in their time of need. Just as the circles in the mural come in different shapes and sizes but work together as one to create a beautiful piece of art, our community is diverse but works together as one to address the issue of homelessness.”
Thank you to all who submitted!
